Local & state: Musgrave, Scott named to Lowe’s All-America
Rob Musgrave of Wichita State and Brett Scott of Kansas State were named to the first team All-Senior All-America team presented by Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award.
Musgrave, a left-handed pitcher from Carbondale, finished the 2008 season with a 12-1 record and a 2.51 ERA.
Scott, a Manhattan native, was named an Academic All-American the last two years.
Others on the first team are Josh Meents, Air Force; Charlie Mellies, Wake Forest, and Cole St. Clair, Rice.
University of Kansas junior Eric Fattig was named to the 2008 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America Cross Country and Track and Field teams on Monday, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Basketball: Nuggets suspend star forward for two games
The Denver Nuggets have suspended NBA All-Star Carmelo Anthony for the first two games of next season for his arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol in April. The announcement by the team Monday comes a day before Anthony is scheduled to enter a plea in the case.
Two former Duquesne basketball players are suing the school over a 2006 shooting that injured them and three other teammates. Kojo Mensah and Shawn James accuse the university of negligence in the on- campus incident. They are seeking punitive damages.
Rasual Butler, a guard for the New Orleans Hornets, has been charged with flashing a loaded gun near a South Florida nightclub.
A witness told investigators that Butler pulled out a gun near a South Beach club early Monday, according to a Miami Beach police report.
Aaron McKie, a former NBA player, tried to buy two guns despite being under a protection-from-abuse order. Montgomery County District Attorney Risa Ferman says McKie failed to disclose the protection order when he applied to buy the guns in April.

Football: Super Bowl champ fills gap on Fox pregame show

General: Big Brown owner taking horse off steroids
The co-owner of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Big Brown said his stable will be drug free by the end of the year, and is encouraging other horse owners to follow suit.
Michael Iavarone said IEAH Stables will take its horses off steroids and every other racing medication besides Lasix in an effort to restore the public’s confidence in the sport.
